Richmond, VA _ Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has announced that the total number of covid-19 cases in Virginia is trending downward, as are the number of hospital patients recovering from coronavirus and patients hospitalized with a possible or pending covid test. But Northam says Virginia will not be entering Phase Three of reopening this week.
The Governor says he will have more to say during his Thursday briefing about what Phase Three will look like in the coming days, but wants more time to see how the numbers look before making changes, especially as we see surges in other parts of the country.
Northam says going forward the Commonwealth will be able to give a greater demographic breakdown of cases by different ethnicities. He says the Virginia Department of Health will be including information on cases among Latino, Asian-American, and Native-American Virginians, as well as African-American Virginians. Northam says it will give the Health Department a better picture of how coronavirus is affecting Virginia's communities.
