Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -  A U.S. District Judge still needs to sign off, but Attorney General Mark Herring says Virginia has agreed to an absentee ballot requirement change for the June 23rd primary.  Ballots without witness signatures will be accepted, over fears about social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic.   The League of Women Voters had challenged the requirement.

The A-G's office points out there are other measures of protection, such as the voter's signature, identifying information, and the fact they check the ballot against request lists.  The change is only in effect for the June primary.  Virginia is lobbying voters to use absentee ballots in light of the pandemic.

The League also points out the registration deadline has been pushed back to May26th.  This follows the delay of the primary to the 23rd date.
