Photos taken on Monday night show various Confederate statues that have been removed from Monument Avenue are currently being stored at the Richmond Wastewater Treatment Plant on the South Side, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports.

A spokesperson for Mayor Levar Stoney's office declined to confirm any of the details.

Stoney used emergency powers to order the removal of the statues on July 1, citing concern for public safety. In a meeting with the Richmond City Council the same day, Stoney said he would work with the council to determine what would be done with the statues once they were removed.

A public hearing has been scheduled for August 3 for residents to give their thoughts on the future of the Confederate monuments. Until then, they will remain in storage at the water treatment facility.
