At around 12:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 23, Colonial Heights Fire and EMS, along with Colonial Heights Police Department, responded to the 200 block of Newcastle Avenue for the report of 22-year-old Ka’Wan Yarborough setting his apartment on fire.
When authorities arrived, they saw fire and smoke coming from the building. Surrounding occupants were evacuated, according to police.
Yarbrough was the only occupant in his apartment, and police say he did not respond to units when asked to evacuate. Officers with Colonial Heights Police grabbed Yarborough from a downstairs window and arrested him.
There were no reported injuries. Yarborough has been charged with arson and is being held at Riverside Regional Jail with no bond pending a court appearance.
Anyone with additional information about this incident is asked to contact Deputy Fire Marshal Jennings at 804-520-9376.
