Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Attorney General Jason Miyares (R) has announced he is joining a legal effort to end the transportation mask mandate. Miyares is joining an effort being led by the Attorney General of Florida, where the mask fight has been very prominent. A number of Republican Attorneys General have signed on.

Miyares argues the mandate is scientifically unnecessary at this point. It comes as Virginia is at a low point with Covid-19 cases, but cases have rebounded internationally, and there are concerns the same could do so here. Miyares also points out that mask mandates have been ended in other sectors.

The transportation mandate is scheduled to end April 18th. When it was extended to that date, the federal government said it was looking at revising the framework to determine exactly when masks should and should not be worn.
