Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The attorney for Huguenot High School graduation shooter Amari Pollard has filed to rescind Pollard’s guilty plea.
Pollard pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony on Feb. 29 in connection to the shooting that killed 18-year-old Shawn Jackson on June 6, 2023. Pollard was sentenced to 43 years in prison with 18 suspended.
Pollard’s attorney released a statement pointing to what was characterized as errors made by the judge in the case.
“I believe that the judge erred, as I’ve stated in my motion, and I know that I erred after the self defense instruction was struck down,” Pollard’s attorney, Jason Anthony, said in a statement to 8News. “You simply cannot have that many errors and still have Justice for Amari Pollard.”
