Washington, D.C. (Newsradiowrva.com) - At 8:47 a.m. on Tuesday, an Amtrak train derailed in a tunnel near Washington's Union Station.
At the time of reporting, the derailment is causing service disruptions between Washington and Richmond as crews work to inspect the area and re-rail the lead locomotive and coach car. The train remained upright, according to an Amtrak spokesperson.
No injuries were reported, but Amtrak says one employee was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. Passengers onboard were provided alternate transportation to Union Station. Amtrak says it's investigating the cause of the derailment.
