Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Two Virginia political analysts believe new proposed maps, out of the State Supreme Court, should be fairly good for Democrats. James Madison University's Robert Roberts says U.S. House, State Senate, and House of Delegates maps all seem to favor Democrats, and could blunt momentum for Republicans coming out of this year's elections.
Christopher Newport University's Quentin Kidd feels similarly. Kidd says while the names may change with the Congressional delegation, the partisan makeup should not change. Democrats currently hold a seven to four seat advantage in Virginia's delegation.
The maps do draw Congresswoman Abagail Spanberger's home into the first district, home to Congressman Rob Wiittman. Roberts says while Democrats should be ok with these proposals, the party made a mistake in allowing a commission to at least start the process, because they could have drawn more Democratic seats had they controlled it themselves.
