Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Republican Glenn Youngkin has won the Governor's race, possibly upsetting former Governor Terry McAuliffe, according to ABC News. McAuliffe led in the polls for much of the campaign, but Youngkin closed over the final weeks.
Youngkin is an outsider candidate who was not even considered one of the favorites when Republicans met to select their candidates earlier this year. His win gives Republicans their first win in a statewide campaign since 2009.
Youngkin's campaign was aided by late controversies in education.
