Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The plexiglass boxes that surrounded Senators' desks in the State Senate are no more. The Senate Clerk's Office took them down Monday evening.
The boxes went up prior to session as a Covid prevention measure. Last year, the State Senate met at the Science Museum of Virginia, and Senators were socially distanced and masked. The boxes were included as part of the return to the State Capitol this year.
The House of Delegates, which is controlled by Republicans (unlike the Senate), has had no barriers this year. The removal came the same day school districts in Virginia were required to offer students the option of not wearing a mask in school buildings. It also comes as case counts have been dropping.
