Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Virginia Department of Health says cases of RSV and flu, as well as other respiratory viruses, are on the rise. They are concerned because it also appears vaccinations are at a lower pace than previous years for the flu. VDH's Lisa Sollot says hospitalizations are up as well.

Sollot says they are trying to stress preventative measures, especially as people gather for the holidays, and kids return home from college. Those include getting vaccinated for the flu, sneezing into your arm, and wearing a mask when appropriate.

She says they are concerned because there seems to be a large number of cases among kids under the age of 17, and that group also doesn't appear to be getting vaccinated in large numbers.
