Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Richmond City Council on Monday voted unanimously to approve three ordinances to create traffic-related improvements throughout the city. A total of $3.5 million will go into the upgrades.
A partnership with VDOT will be established for upgrades including the addition of about 252 high-visibility signal backplates, 36 raised crossings at intersections without traffic signals, and approximately 54 left turn flashing yellow arrow signals at some intersections.
Additional warning signs and pavement markings will also be added, as will additional infrastructure to prevent corner cutting on left turns. Common left-turn hardening methods include placing modular curbs near the intersection or installing slow turn wedges.
The ordinances were approved by the Richmond City Council during a scheduled meeting on Monday, Dec. 9. In total, the improvements are estimated to cost about $3,517,104. The city added that these dollars are 100% federal reimbursable funds.
