Chesterfield County, VA. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - We're a little less than a month away from the National Night Out crime prevention event in Chesterfield County. That event is scheduled for Tuesday, August 2. The county is in the process of registering neighborhoods who want to take part in the event.
The deadline to do that is July 19. Corporal Craig Eckrich with Chesterfield Police says that neighborhoods can do that by going to www.chesterfield.gov/nationalnightout.
Corporal Eckrich says that because there have been recent high-profile crime incidents, that could lead to more people being involved this year. He says there are no rules for how your National Night Out block party event should look like. He's seen a variety of activities that neighborhoods have done and all work.
Eckrich says the event is a great way for neighborhoods to bond with the officers that patrol their area and it's a great way for neighbors to get to know each other.
