Chesterfield County, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - Nearly three months after an October 31 murder that occurred near Midlothian High School in Chesterfield, police have made two arrests in connection to that incident.

Captain Mike Breeden says the original incident involved a man getting into a confrontation with another man, who was going through his girlfriend's car. During that confrontation, 56 year old Robert Ashburn was shot and killed. Within a few weeks, police identified 25 year old Asuntae Barksdale and 21 year old Avontae Smith as the people responsible.

Breeden says that police also realized that Barksdale and Smith were in a car that was stopped by police after the incident. Another person was in that car. Breeden says, through interviews and consultation with the Commonwealth's Attorney, it was determined very recently that the third person did not have a connection to the incident where Ashburn was killed and will not be charged.

Barksdale and Smith have been charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
