Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Virginia Department of Health says an adult in the eastern part of Virginia has died after being diagnosed with Monkeypox. This is Virginia's first Monkeypox-related death this outbreak.

Monkeypox is not usually life-threatening. However, it can cause fever, chills, swollen nodes, and rashes. It is spread through close contact.

Dr. Laurie Forlano, the deputy director of the office of Epidemiology, says that cases continue to be on the lower side and have been decreasing since August.

People who are exposed to Monkeypox are encouraged to get the vaccine as soon as possible. It is most effective if administered within four days of exposure.
