Charlottesville, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Controversial UVA Board of Visitors Appointee Bert Ellis apologized Friday, the first meeting of the Board since he barely survived a confirmation vote. Ellis apologized for texts which appeared in the Washington Post, says he was willing to fight "numnuts" reporting on his controversy. Another text said he anticipated a "battle royale" for the soul of the university.

Ellis is opposed by students because he reportedly brought a razor blade to campus to cut a sign critical of UVA. He also reportedly was involved in bringing a eugenics speaker to the campus in the 1970s. Ellis, in his apology, says he is emotional and occasionally does things that he wouldn't want to see in the Washington Post.

Ellis received a 20-20 vote in the State Senate in February, the same day the Senate rejected three other of Governor Glenn Youngkin's (R) appointees.
