Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The city of Richmond has finalized an agreement on the development of the Diamond District, including the new stadium for the Flying Squirrels.

Though interests rates have gone up over 2.5% since the city announced its development partners, they say the plans for the District remain unchanged. The city, however, will be responsible for paying for more of the necessary public infrastructure, which they intend to do with cash from land sales, general use bonds, and other such income streams.

Most notably, opening day for the new Flying Squirrels stadium has been pushed back to 2026, despite the fact that the MLB had previously set the deadline for 2025. The city and the Flying Squirrels organization seem confident, however, that this shouldn't cause any major issues.
