Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Dominion Energy says it has more than enough power to keep the lights, and air conditioning, running during this heat wave. NBC12 Meteorologist Rachel Myers says while real temperatures will be around 100 degrees Friday and Saturday, at the peaks, the heat index will be around 112.
Dominion Spokesman Aaron Ruby says they are generating enough power, and their distribution system is holding up. Dominion is part of an interconnected, multi-state power grid, and those states are also being impacted by the heat. Ruby says the grid is handling the heat wave well.
While there is enough power, Ruby says there are things consumers can do to reduce the load, as well as their power bill. He says raising your thermostat a degree or two will make a big difference, as well as using ceiling fans to move the air. He says ceiling fans use far less energy than air conditioning. Ruby says limiting major appliance use in the heat will also make a difference.
