Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Dozens of Richmonders took part in a protest on Monday, Jan. 20, the day of Trump’s second inauguration. The gathering took place in the city's Monroe Park.
The protest, called "We Fight Back," was one of 73 held in major cities across the U.S. on Monday after Trump was sworn in.
“We’re here for immigrants and their families. We’re here for a free Palestine. We’re here for the rights of workers,” said David Robbins, a community organizer with the Party for Socialism and Liberation of Virginia (PSL). “We want people to have a living wage and not have to beg for quarters.”
Protestors said the inauguration being moved indoors highlighted the disconnect they currently feel from both major political parties.
“Both parties represent the capitalist billionaire class,” protestors chanted.
President Trump on Monday signed a flurry of executive orders and rescinded dozens of directives issued by President Biden. Protest organizers plan to meet again at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Gold Lion Community Cafe to discuss next steps as the executive orders play out.
