Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia Elections Commissioner Susan Beals says approximately 600 people voted in the 2022 elections that should have been prohibited from doing so. Beals says this was discovered during list maintenance activities, where they discovered over 10,000 felons on the rolls that should have been prohibited.

Beals says the problem was created by a computer coding error. She says the over 10,000 were previous felons who had their rights restored and then committed another disqualifying felony. She says the system dates to 2011 and has now been corrected. Local registrars will have the information Monday.

Beals also says they have forwarded the names of those prohibited that have a voting credit (showing they voted) to the Attorney General's Office. Beals could not say if any races were impacted, however, no elections this year went to a recount.
