Fairfax, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Fairfax County Public Schools says an independent investigation has found county schools did not intentionally withhold notification of National Merit Scholarship Awards. The investigation also found, according to Fairfax, that there was no effort to try and minimize student achivevement.
The school system says the merit award controversy has lead to staff being harassed and threatened. The investigation found that the delays that occurred were the result of a number of factors, including a lack of a uniform policy and logistical issues. There is still an investigation ongoing by the Attorney General's Office.
The Attorney General's office did release a statement saying, “It’s encouraging that FCPS is working to be more transparent about the inconsistencies surrounding their National Merit award decisions and process. The Office of the Attorney General will continue its investigation.”
