Dinwiddie, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The final four trial dates in the Irvo Oteino Case have been set. Otieno died at Central State Hospital back in early March, after being transferred there from the Henrico Jail. Seven Henrico Sheriff's deputies and one hospital employee face murder charges in his death. He was originally picked up on an emergency order.
Originally, Dinwiddie Commonwealth's Attorney Ann Baskervill wanted to try all the defendants together. However, Baskervill resigned in June to move to France, and the new Commonwealth's Attorney withdrew that motion. As a result, the trials will now stretch from June of 2024 until the end of the year.
Four trial dates were set Tuesday. Deputy Kaiyell Saunders will have his trial in December of 2024. Brandon Rodgers, Tabitha Levere, and Wavie Jones will all have October trials. Jones is the lone Central State Hospital employee charged.
