Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The loss of State Senator George Barker (D-Fairfax), the Senate Finance Chair, does not lessen the pressure to get budget agreements, according to James Madison University Political Scientist Robert Roberts. Roberts says schools and universities are pushing for a spending plan because they want to know what money they have to spend.

Roberts does not believe it will be difficult to come to a deal. He says there is nearly billion dollars extra for lawmakers to work with.

Technically, Virginia does not need to come to a spending agreement this year because the Commonwealth is in the middle of a two-year spending plan. Lawmakers left Richmond earlier this year without an agreement.
