Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Eileen Filler-Corn (D), Virginia's first woman and Jewish speaker, has announced she is planning to run for the 10th Congressional District. The district is currently represented by Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton (D), who recently received a diagnosis that she termed "Parkinson's on steroids." Wexton is retiring.
Filler-Corn was Speaker of the House of Delegates for two year until Republicans regained control in 2022. She was then forced out of being Minority Leader by her fellow Democrats, who wanted additional change. She chose not to run for re-election when the districts were redrawn for this November's elections.
Filler-Corn had been mentioned for a possible run for Governor in 2025, and her run for Congress now leaves that to be a likely matchup between Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney and Congresswoman Abagail Spanberger for the Democratic nomination.
