Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - There is a chance of flooding rain late this afternoon into this evening in the Richmond Metro area. NBC 12 meteorologist Andrew Freiden says there is a flood watch in effect for slow-moving storms that could dump 2-4 inches of rain and cause some flash flooding.
The time frame for this will be between 5 and 7 p.m. in the Richmond Metro area. In general, the threat goes between 3 and 10 p.m. Freiden says there could be some gusty winds and frequent lightning, but the main concern is the threat of floods.
He says the main reason for the heavy rain threat is the oppressive humidity, combined with a stationary cold front well to the north of us. That could mean not only a large amount of rain in a short amount of time, but also flooding from prolonged heavy rain.
The cold front will eventually reach us tomorrow night and we'll be pleasant starting Friday into the weekend.
