Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - State Senate Democrats say they're focusing on some gun legislation that they would like to introduce in the current General Assembly session.

Fairfax Democrat Senator Jennifer Boysko says she is going to introduce legislation that would require that parents who have guns in a household, have those firearms securely locked. This is especially important if minors are present. Boysko says that in the case of the six-year-old in the Newport News school shooting last week, he got the gun from a family member. She says that studies have shown that people who use guns for suicide or a mass shooting typically get the gun from a family member.

Fairfax Democratic Delegate Dave Marsden wants to introduce a bill that would impose a $500 fine for anyone who leave a gun unattended in a car. In addition, that car would be towed.
