Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A Republican delegate told Democrats on the House of Delegates floor Monday afternoon that if the Abortion Amendment language was different, they may have been able to pick up a few votes. The House is currently split 52 Republican and 48 Democrats.

Delegate Carrie Coyner (R-Chesterfield) said if Democrats made it explicit that they were covering instances of miscarriage, or fetal non-viability, it would gain votes. Coyner says an amendment with a third-trimester ban would gain votes. Coyner says says support for abortion drops a lot after the end of the second trimester.

However, Del. Candi Mundon King (D-Prince William) says no Republican offered that language when changes could be made, and says she does not believe it would have garnered additional support. Democrats are trying a last-gasp maneuver to try and bring the constitutional amendment to the House floor. It already passed the Senate.
