Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) has declared a State of Emergency ahead of torm heading towards Virginia. The declaration allows resources to be "pre-positioned" ahead of the storm. The impacts are expected to be from Central Virginia east.
State Police say they will have all available troopers and supervisors working into Saturday. They are also asking drivers to avoid driving if possible, and to move over if there are cars, not just police, on the side of the road. State law changed this year to require a move over (or slowing down if moving isn't possible) if there is a car with lights flashing on the shoulder.
State Police also ask drivers not to drive through standing water, because it may be deeper than expected.
