Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Glenn Youngkin (R) is offering limited reaction to the budget deal reached between Senate Democrats and Republican delegates. Youngkin's office says the Governor has been briefed on the deal, and he looks forward to the final language. The Governor declined comment on the fact the deal reportedly does not inlcude his showpiece three month suspension of the state gas tax.
Few lawmakers outside negotiators have seen the agreement. Delegate Danica Roem (D-Prince William) tweeted she had only learned what was in it from the Richmond Times-Dispatch and the Washington Post. Both newspapers received briefings on the deal.
The two papers report that the deal does include tax rebates and an increase in the standard deduction. It also includes 10% raises for state employees and teachers over the life of the two year budget.
