Hopewell, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Ralph Northam (D) used Hopewell's first day of school in their "balanced" calendar to announce a proposed $500 million in funding for ventilation systems. The proposal also comes one week before the General Assembly is set to return to Richmond to determine how to spend over four billion in federal Covid funds.

The proposal would rely on $250 million in federal Covid funds and an additional $250 million from other sources. The Governor says it should be enough to cover all currently planned HVAC projects. Ventilation has become an increasing concern given Covid's airborne nature.

Northam also recently announced a $700 million proposal to expand broadband in Virginia.
