Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Fueled by the overwhelming success of its Pulse line, GRTC is on track to add four articulated 60-foot compressed natural gas buses to its rapid-transit fleet.

The new buses will be able to accommodate 120 passengers, seated and standing. They will also have a third door to speed up boarding and make overall trip times faster.

To accommodate the third door, there will be some construction taking place at bus stations this Spring. GRTC says it expects the new buses to be on the roads by 2025, possibly a little sooner.

Eventually, the new, larger buses will replace the entire Pulse line. Existing Pulse buses will be reassigned to smaller routes.

"The overwhelming demand we've seen for the existing Pulse has made it clear that we need to expand the fleet both in size and capacity," says Henry Bendon, GRTC spokesperson. "These first four will eventually replace the entire Pulse fleet. Those buses will be cycled into regular service."
