Henrico, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Henrico and Richmond will both return their students to school for the first day of classes on Wednesday. For Richmond, it will be the first day students have been in buildings in over a year.
All of the local districts, and many districts nationwide, are dealing with a bus driver shortage. Henrico admits the shortage could lead to bus delays the first few days of school. However, Spokesman Andy Jenks says some of that could also be attributed to normal first day activities and jitters as well. Henrico is approximately 100 drivers short. Jenks says they are working to hire more.
Chesterfield began school two weeks ago. The district also has an approximately 100 driver shortage, and its first days were plagued by long waits, and backups at dropoff and pickup times. Chesterfield asked parents to drive kids to school while Henrico did not.
