Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The House of Delegates Tuesday approved a ban on teaching "divisive concepts." The idea, a major part of Governor Glenn Youngkin's (R) campaign, is tied into complaints over Critial Race Theory. Critical Race Theory, as is commonly defined, is not taught in Virginia Public Schools, but is rather a high-level legal framework.

House Democrats opposed the ban. Delegate Schuyler VanValkenburg (D-Henrico) argued it will lead to teachers constantly checking their back, and eventually, leaving the profession. VanValkenberg is a teacher at Glen Allen High School.

Youngkin has issued an executive order that does similar things to this bill. The State Senate is unlikely to approve the ban.
