Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Senator Tim Kaine (D), in a conference call with Virginia reporters, is calling for a continuing resolution to keep the federal government open past the end of the month end of the budget deadline. Kaine is also critical of some House Republicans, mostly far on the right, who are willing to consider a shutdown if they do not succeed in getting the cuts they are looking for.
Kaine recently proposed outlawing government shutdowns. The proposal is unlikely to pass. What Kaine wants is to have continuing resolutions automatically take effect if a budget does not pass in time, and then limit what Congress can consider until a budget actually passes.
Among those supporting a potential government shutdown is Congressman Bob Good (R-5th).
