Washington, D.C. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- Senator Tim Kaine (D) says his bill, to require Senate approval for a pullout of NATO, has made it out of a Senate committee. Kaine first proposed the idea back in 2018, but it has not gone anywhere since then. The Democrat believes the time is right.

Kaine re-proposed the idea in 2021. He says since then, NATO has only become more prominent, uniting to help Ukraine as it tries to withstand a Russian invasion. The idea has bi-partisan support, with Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) also backing.

Kaine says the Constitution offers guidelines for agreeing to and approving treaties, but is silent on withdrawing from them. Former President Donald Trump threatened to withdraw from NATO during his term.
