Richmond, Va. (NewsradioWRVA.com) - AAA Mid Atlantic doesn't officially give projections for how many people will be on the road for the Labor Day weekend, like they do for Memorial Day and the 4th of July, but spokesman Morgan Dean says given the trends that have happened so far this summer, it looks to be a busy holiday weekend....coming up in just a week.
Dean says the travel counts will most likely hit pre-pandemic levels as it's been a very active summer on the roads this summer, despite higher than normal gas prices. He adds that the ongoing issues that are happening with airlines, it looks like going via car is the most popular choice.
The dynamics of Labor Day have also changed with more and more schools starting before Labor Day. Dean says that just means that when people do travel, they will just try to make a long weekend of it. The most crowded get-away time will be on Friday, September 2.
