Chesterfield County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A loaded gun was found at Matoaca Middle School today, according to Chesterfield Police, as well as a stash of marijuana.
Just after 11:45 this morning, school administrators attempted to search a bag belonging to a 13-year-old male student at Matoaca Middle School. They suspected the backpack contained marijuana. Chesterfield Police say the student fled with the bag, however, before it could be searched. They say the student pushed an administrator while running out of the building, where he was apprehended by a school resource officer. The bag was then revealed to contain a loaded handgun and marijuana.
The student has been charged with possession of a firearm on school property and possession of marijuana on school property, as well as assault of a school official. He is currently in juvenile detention. Nobody was hurt in the incident.
