Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - On Tuesday, a local political group called for the removal of Richmond school superintendent Jason Kamras.
The group, called the Richmond Crusade for Voters, contended that Kamras has not kept his promises and that change is needed.
Richmond Crusade for Voters cited a list of ten failures they say warrant a change in how the school system operates.
In his five-year strategic plan, Kamras had set out to address chronic absenteeism. However, data from the Virginia Department of Education confirmed the district’s rate of chronic absenteeism has increased overall since Kamras took over. The group also pointed out the school district’s declining graduation rate.
Kamras has more than a year left in his contract, so school board action would be required to get him out early. Mayor Levar Stoney indicated that it’s too early to make that move.
