Lunenburg County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Just after 8 o'clock on Sunday night, Lunenburg County Public Schools announced that they would be cancelling school for Monday and closing their offices. All after-school activities have been cancelled and the school board meeting scheduled for tonight has been postponed. Lunenburg students who attend the Governor's School of Southside Virginia in Keysville will also be staying home, but the rest of the student body, drawn from other counties in the area, will continue as normal.
At 1:27 Monday afternoon, Lunenburg County Schools posted a statement on their official Facebook page. Though the statement does not go into detail (apparently at the behest of the Lunenburg Sheriff's Department), the closure was "due to a threat that involved the school system." State Police are now involved, and the Lunenburg Sheriff's Department will be releasing a statement shortly.
The statement from Lunenburg Schools clarified that school will proceed "as normal" tomorrow, albeit with "an increased law enforcement presence." Read the full statement here:
