Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Richmond Police are investigating a shooting at a GRTC bus stop that left one man dead.
GRTC confirms that the shooting occurred at a bus stop located at Cowardin Avenue and Hull Street, on Richmond's Southside. Police say it happened just before 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, while the man was preparing to step onto a bus.
Officers arrived at the scene to find a man lying unresponsive on the pavement near the rear door of the bus. He was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement, GRTC acknowledged an “incident of gun violence” that took place “next to a GRTC bus.” GRTC said “no GRTC passengers or employees were harmed by or involved in the incident,” though the bus was taken out of service.
“We would like to express our deep condolences to the family of the victim and our dismay that such an incident occured at all,” GRTC said in the release.
