Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia Governor Ralph Northam has announced new changes to the Commonwealth's mask mandate. The changes follow new guidance from the Centers for Disease Control. Now Virginians who are fully vaccinated can go maskless outside in small groups. Originally, masks were required if you could not social distance.

Masks will still be required indoors and in large crowds, like graduations and sporting events. The Governor also announced an immediate raising of the capacity for outdoor recreational sporting events to 1,000 people. The change will allow larger crowds for the upcoming State High School Football Championship games.

The Governor remains confident all capacity limits could be lifted in mid-June.
