Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Mayor Levar Stoney offered his reaction to the shooting of two George Wythe High School students on Thursday afternoon.
Stoney ultimately pointed to the sheer number of guns in circulation in the city of Richmond, and in the nation at large. "There are too many damn guns in this city," he said, "too many damn guns in this state, and too many damn guns in the country." He said that more has to be done to reduce the number of guns on the street and to crack down on illegal gun sales. He also expressed concern for how accessible those guns are to young people.
In addition to the number of guns in circulation, however, Stoney also implored parents to be active in their children's lives, and to ask questions about what they're up to and who they're spending time with. "Be a tad bit curious about what's going on in your child's life," he said. "I'm not saying you have to be a helicopter parent... but it would help!"
