Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Glenn Youngkin's office confirms Ann McLean has resigned from the State Historic Resources Board, effective August 1st. McLean was under fire for comments made during an interview on Richmond's Morning News with John Reid, where she compared the North in the Civil War to Russia in the war with Ukraine. She also claimed secession was not treason.

Youngkin's office, in a statement, said, "after discussion about our Administration's goals and priorities and Dr. McLean's, Dr. McLean resigned from the Board of Historic Resources effective August 1, 2022. The Governor has made his disagreement with her prior comments clear, and the Administration is focused on ensuring that our commonwealth's rich history and resources are preserved, the best and the worst, for future generations of Virginians and visitors."

McLean was a controversial appointment to the Board because of her support of the Confederate Monuments, which were mostly removed in 2020 and 2021.
