Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) -- The Mega Millions jackpot has reached $1.05 billion -- a historically high sum.
This is the fourth highest mega millions jackpot ever, according to the Virginia Lottery, and the eighth biggest jackpot of any lottery ever. This is the latest in a string of historically-high lottery jackpots.
John Haggerty of the Virginia Lottery says this is because the lottery odds were changed several years ago, and the new odds make winning much more statistically difficult. This leads, he says, to higher jackpots and higher excitement.
The next mega millions drawing is Tuesday at 11 PM.
