Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - In the absence of a winner for the estimated $820 million jackpot, the Mega Millions jackpot has risen to $910 million. Tuesday night's drawing produced no big winners, however there were 70,000 winning tickets for lesser amounts sold in Virginia.
"There were no winners at the $10,000 or million dollar level in Virginia," says John Hagerty, Virginia Lottery Spokesperson. "But it's a reminder that you should always check those numbers. Even if you didn't match all the numbers, you might have won a lesser prize."
While the odds of winning the $910 million jackpot on the line Friday night are slim, the game pays out many more smaller prizes. Overall, the odds of winning any prize is 1 in 24. The profit from every ticket sold in Virginia goes to benefit K-12 public schools.
"That's why the Virginia lottery exists," says Hagerty. "It helps raise money for K-12 education in the Commonwealth. Whether or not it's a winning ticket, it benefits Virginia."
