Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A day after Henrico Delegate Lamont Bagby became the first Democrat to officially announce he's running for the Fourth Congressional District, two additional Democrats have jumped in with announcements of their own. State Senator Jennifer McClellan (D-Richmond) held an event at the State Capitol, while State Senator Joe Morrissey (D-Petersburg) announced in Petersburg.

McClellan stressed constituent services, climate change, and reproductive and voting rights as her top issues. Morrissey stressed his efforts in criminal justice reform. McClellan has succeeded the late Congressman Donald McEachin (D-4) once before, replacing him in the State Senate when he moved to Congress.

The firehouse primary to chose the Democratic candidate is next Tuesday, which Morrissey says will prevent a number of people from voting. He says it should be Saturday, while McClellan says that is not enough time to inform people. The Democratic candidate is likely to win in the district, given its political leanings.
