New Kent, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A New Kent man is facing felony charges after he allegedly assaulted a deputy and caused an hours-long standoff Tuesday.
At around 3 p.m. on Dec. 17, the New Kent Sheriff’s office was called by a tow truck driver claiming 62-year-old Earl Marvin Taylor threatened him while he was trying to legally repossess the man’s vehicle. The incident took place at 5511 Holly Fork Road.
Deputies say Taylor was uncooperative, slammed a door on a deputy’s foot, and threatened to blow him up.
During the struggle, a taser was deployed by authorities. Authorities said Taylor then retreated into his home, prompting more law enforcement to respond.
After several hours of unsuccessful negotiations, a search warrant was executed at Taylor’s home. He was arrested just after 7 p.m. and is being held without bond at Pumunkey Regional Jail.
The deputy has a broken foot from the incident, according to the sheriff's office. Taylor was taken to the hospital in accordance with protocol, due to the fact that a taser was deployed. Officials say there were no other injuries.
Taylor has been charged with the following offenses:
• Felony assault on a law enforcement officer
• Threats to bomb
• Obstruction of justice
• Assault and battery
