Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Governor Ralph Northam marked a milestone Monday morning, saying the Commonwealth had hit 70% of adults receiving at least one Covid shot. The event came despite the fact the Virginia Department of Health has the number just short at 69.9% as of Monday afternoon.

Northam thanked those who have chosen to get vaccinated. President Joe Biden set a national goal of 70% by July Fourth, which the Commonwealth will easily meet. Northam says they have tried a number of strategies to get people shots including mobile clinics, and clinics within neighborhoods.

Northam also says he will have guidance for law enforcement on how to handle people using masks after June 30th, when the State of Emergency expires. Mask wearing is illegal in Virginia under most circumstances, but had been suspended during the pandemic.
