Hanover County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - The Hanover Board of Supervisors has approved the construction of two portable classrooms for Cool Spring Elementary School, which is in urgent need of additional classroom space. The Board voted unanimously to approve a special zoning exception.

Cool Spring is well over capacity, and the School Board says it’s working to monitor overcrowding systemwide with the help of an outside consultant.

The elementary school’s enrollment is steadily growing. As a result, the school has exceeded the amount of students it’s meant to hold. Over 100 kindergarteners are set to enter Cool Spring this fall.

The portable classrooms, or “learning cottages,” will provide more space for instruction.

“Without these learning cottages, students will continue to have classes in converted storage and janitorial spaces,” said Amanda Kronenberg, a Cool Spring parent and volunteer who spoke in favor of the request.
