Passenger Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Chesterfield County

Chesterfield County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Chesterfield County that resulted in the death of a passenger.

At 12:48 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, a Mercury Milan was stopped on the right shoulder of I-95 South, near the exit for Route 288, when it was hit by a Honda Civic, which had gone off the right side of the road.


A passenger in the Mercury, 23-year-old Crailynn A. Christie, of Petersburg, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and died at the scene, according to police.

The driver of the Mercury, Kweli J. Grooms, 21, of Petersburg, had serious injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt.

Police said the driver of the Honda, 25-year-old Thomas J. Calix Lisboa, of Hopewell, had minor injuries. He was also wearing a seatbelt. Lisboa was charged with reckless driving, driving on a suspended or revoked license and driving an uninspected vehicle.

Fatigue is being looked at as a possible factor in the crash, according to a VSP spokesperson. The crash remains under investigation.
